Wayne Hammond

I first set foot in Africa in 1999. Within 24 hours of landing at Kenya’s Mombasa Airport I realised that I never wanted to travel anywhere other than Africa. I’ve now travelled to the continent over 30 times and rarely a day goes by without me thinking about Africa, planning my next trip there or reflecting on the last. You might say I am hopelessly addicted to the place.

My trips have taken me to Kenya (far too many times to remember), Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Rwanda, South Africa and Mozambique. More than anything, I love being in the bush, with a great guide, my camera, and the African sun on my back. My favourite bush haunts include Kenya’s Maasai Mara, Mana Pools in Zimbabwe, and South Luangwa national park in Zambia.

In addition to my interest in wildlife photography, I am an occasional travel writer, and act as a UK based Safari Consultant for Gamewatchers Safaris.

Gamewatchers Safaris are based in Nairobi and specialize in tailor-made wildlife safaris and community-based eco-tourism to conserve habitat for animals in the wilds of Kenya. They arrange safaris to the best parks and reserves across Africa staying in smaller, more exclusive camps and using 4 wheel drive safari vehicles for game drives, not mini vans.

Gamewatchers also own and operate the small and exclusive PORINI safari camps in private wilderness reserves in Kenya: Porini Amboseli Camp in the Selenkay Conservancy, Porini Rhino Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, and Porini Mara Camp in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy & Porini Lion Camp in the Olare Orok Conservancy (both adjacent to the Masai Mara national reserve). Gamewatchers also runs Nairobi Tented Camp in the Nairobi National park, home to rhino, lions and numerous other game - the best way to start your safari and avoid the Nairobi traffic.
